St Andrew's Hospice

The design of a hospice needs to accommodate all of the clinical support facilities and equipment within a familiar, friendly and domestic setting. It is not a hospital and the focus is very much on ‘life’.This scheme links the existing adult and children’s hospice buildings with a new two storey structure containing a new entrance, reception and support facilities. The careful placing of the new building also allows for new external courtyards to be formed. Some parts of the existing building have been removed to allow for courtyards which provide daylight and natural ventilation to the existing deep plan facilities. Other smaller design initiatives enable a clear public to private hierarchy to be reinforced.
