Positive Activities

Positive Activities is a completely self-sustainable nonprofit social enterprise whose main social and core aims are to work in a multi-agency setting delivering a wide range of positive activities to some of the most vulnerable disadvantaged children, families and disabled groups in the Humber Region. The vision for the project was to create 3 zones in a phased development which would be integrated into our Millennium Park housing project in Humberston. Phase 1 is an ‘off grid’ structure orientated around a fishing lake to the south of the site and is entirely selfsustainable.

The building is externally clad in charred black timber with a south facing mono pitched roof that houses photovoltaic panels. The building provides offices, classroom, kitchen, large viewing terrace and a classroom for groups of 6 children at a time. Energy creation strategies such as photovoltaic panels, bio mass generators and thermal mass are utilised along with other sustainable tactics such as rainwater harvesting and compost toilets. Core activities and proposals around this phase include the creation of activity zones, coarse and game fishing, various aquaculture, raft building.

Phase 2 is a large iconic building which establishes the heart of the site providing multiple offices for support agencies, conference rooms, therapeutic areas, classrooms, a restaurant and several craft / workshops to support micro businesses and a large external space for events. The triangular footprint of the building mimics the existing tree patterns on the site.
