Hodson Architects were engaged by Heritage Lincolnshire to explore the feasibility of reusing Black Sluice, a redundant pumping station in Boston, through various different uses that will benefit the community and continue the story of water management. The existing fabric and machinery will be retained insitu as far as possible. Lightweight structures create viewing platforms and new mezzanine levels for accommodation. A museum is proposed to the lower ground level will displaying the history of water management as well as emergency technological advances. Teaching spaces, office units and conference spaces and retail are also proposed alongside a cafe / restaurant and in and amongst the machinery.
